Test your hooping skills at the first-ever Azaleas for Athletes 3×3 Basketball Tournament, in partnership with the UNCW Seahawk Club and UNCW Women’s Basketball! 🏀
This brand-new event brings the heat with a fast-paced 3-on-3 format, open to teams of all skill levels.
Two divisions will be offered: Open: Can be all male, all female, or co-ed Women’s: All women’s team
Play is for participants ages 18 and up. Games will follow simplified FIBA rules in a double elimination format, with a $125 team registration fee.

FIBA 3×3 Basketball – Simplified Rules
1. League Composition
Divisions: Open & Women’s
Format: Double Elimination
The winner of the loser’s bracket must win twice in the finals to be declared the overall champion.
2. Team Composition
3 players on the court, with 1 substitute
Substitutions allowed during dead-ball situations
1 coach allowed per team
3. Game Duration
Single 12-minute period
Game ends early if a team scores 21 points
If tied at the end of regulation: untimed sudden-death overtime (first to score wins)
No shot clock
4. Scoring
2 points: Shot inside the arc
3 points: Shot beyond the arc
Free throws:
1 point (And-1 or Technical)
2 points (fouled on a 2-point attempt)
3 points (fouled on a 3-point attempt)
5. Possession & Ball Clearance
Clear the ball beyond the 3-point line after:
A made basket
No check required—just clear the ball to maintain pace
A defensive rebound or steal
6. Check Ball
Game starts with a check-up (lowest seed receives the ball)
All dead-ball restarts must begin with a check-up
7. Fouls
Personal and technical fouls count as team fouls
2 technical fouls or an unsportsmanlike foul = player disqualified from the tournament
Team fouls 1–5: Standard penalties (check-up or free throws)
Team fouls 6+: Opponent awarded 1 free throw worth 1 point
