Watermelon is the BEST summertime treat!! And despite how incredibly HOT is was this past Saturday, I was thrilled to attend the North Carolina Watermelon Festival held in the quaint town of Fair Bluff. They host this festival each year, and this year was the 30th anniversary celebration.
Everyone had a great time – even with the boiling temperatures! We got to walk through the downtown shops, the Drug Store had hand-scooped ice cream and an old fashioned soda fountain! After the parade, we headed to the street fair, and then attended the pageant at the end of the day. I loved seeing all the little princesses there!
My favorite part of the Fair Bluff Watermelon Festival was participating in the watermelon seed spitting contest! Even though I didn’t win, it was still lots of fun to be a part of. I also enjoyed seeing the giant watermelons grown by local farmers, each trying to win a prize for the largest one. And I was amazed at the amount of money the Fair Bluff Rotary Club raised by auctioning off a variety of donated watermelons!
If you ever visit the town of Fair Bluff, be sure to take a stroll on the river walk downtown…it was another one of my favorite things. It is set back in the trees, bordering the river that runs through the town…it is such a wonderful display of the natural beauty of Fair Bluff.
This festival – filled with wonderful people – was very unique and is definitely one that I will never forget!
