Have you ever wished you were a child again or that you could experience the world like your children? We here at the Azalea Festival definitely have! That is why we have created a fun-filled week of activities for the whole family to enjoy. All five senses will be stimulated when you see the brilliant Fireworks, taste the southern food, hear the Street Fair music, smell the sweet azaleas, and feel the enthusiasm from the boxing ring!
First begin the Azalea Festival experience by meeting royalty on Wednesday, April 6th at 3:00 pm at the Port City Marina when the Azalea Queen is officially crowned! You will be able to meet the Queen herself as well as the festival’s VIP celebrities. If you are near the Street Fair Stage at 6:00 pm on April 8th you will be able to hear the City Rockfest going on featuring the bands Seventh Day Slumber, Disciple, Spoken, Decyfer Down, and Children 18:3.
Saturday, April 9th you do not want to miss the Parade starting at 9:30 am proceeding down 3rd street. It is a Parade like you have never seen before with floats, horses, Cape Fear Garden Club Azalea Belles, marching bands, clowns, and other fun surprises. After the Parade, be sure to explore the Street Fair to discover the variety of booths displaying arts, crafts, food, and much much more! You have to stop and snack on one of the sweet treats available like the kettle corn, funnel cakes, or ice cream. You will be immersed in Native American, Celtic, Mexican, Middle Eastern, Chinese, Hawaiian, Indian, Techmoji, Philippine, Japanese, and a variety of other cultures through the performers music, dance, and clothing at the Street Fair Multicultural Stage. Performances will be occurring from 12:30 – 5:00 pm. Also, there will be a Special Celebrity Meet and Greet from 1:00 – 3:00 pm at the Street Fair that you will not want to miss! You will hear crackling and see bright colors in the sky at 9:00 pm when our brilliant fireworks display start. The Fireworks will dance in the sky above the Cape Fear River and Battleship.
Sunday, April 10th brings new events and additional fun as you explore the Children’s Area of the Street Fair. Here you will find games, crafty projects, and a stage that features children’s performances. The Coin Show will be at the Elks Lodge from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm where you will see many different types of currency and currency from foreign countries. You will even get to see a gold panning demonstration! After you have been captivated by this, it is time to watch the competition battle it out during the Boxing Tournament at the Schwartz Center from 2:00-5:00 pm.
Come enjoy the entire week at the North Carolina Azalea Festival! There are activities for everyone and they are all FREE! It will be a week to remember!
