Paws on Parade
This year The Azalea Festival and paws4people are partnering to host our first Paws on Parade inclusive of a 5K, one-mile fun walk, the Canine Court, and much more! Entry is $10. Come out and join the fun!
Chalkfest Presented by Harris Teeter
Join us for family-friendly fun chalking the sidewalks of downtown Wilmington! Create fun designs or inspirational messages to share with the Street Fair guests over the weekend! All ages are welcome to fill the streets of downtown with your beautiful chalk artwork.
Bluewater Grill kicks off their Waterfront Music Series by hosting the Festival Finale at the last event of the North Carolina Azalea Festival. Live entertainment, giveaways – Bluewater takes Sunday Funday to a new level at the best patio party in town!
A favorite Festival event, the Fireworks are presented over the majestic Cape Fear River on Saturday night of the Festival at 9:00 PM. Come early to pick out your best viewing spot!
Street Fair Music & Multicultural Stage
Join us Saturday and Sunday of the Festival 12:30 PM – 5 PM for a FREE multicultural, family-friendly celebration on the multicultural stage that will showcase different cultures flourishing here in the Greater Cape Fear Region. You will marvel at the authentic costumes, dance, and music of some of our best ethnic performing groups.
Join us for a fun mile-long race along the Parade route prior to Parade start time.
Street Fair Children’s Area
The Street Fair Children’s Area Presented by Wilmington Eye is located on Water St. between Walnut and Grace (the parking lot of the Cotton Exchange). Come enjoy family-friendly vendors, FREE, hands-on activities, and performers on the Wilmington Health Stage.
Riverwalk Shag Contest…on the Banks of the Cape Fear
A Shag Contest for all ages...join us for this family-friendly event and watch the dance of the South live in person! Admission is $1 at the door. After the Contest join us for an After Shag Dance Party - tickets are $10 at the door!
The Azalea Festival Parade continues to be one of Southeastern North Carolina’s largest annual event, with over 100,000 viewers each year. Our traditional parade route flows right through the heart of Historic downtown Wilmington. Floats, marching units and bands, clowns and horses, Parade balloons, all highlighted by visiting invited guests, the Azalea Festival Princess and her Court, and Queen Azalea herself!
A fun-filled, family event! Children are given free foreign coins to learn about currency and foreign countries, and more than 30 dealers from several surrounding states are on hand to appraise, buy, sell and trade coins, currency and other numismatic items.
Juried Art Show and Sale
Over 100 North Carolina and national artists will present fine paintings and 3D art creations at the 38th Annual Juried Spring Art Show and Sale. This “Official Art Show” of the North Carolina Azalea Festival, created by the Wilmington Art Association, is a long-standing tradition within this NC Festival.
The North Carolina Azalea Festival Boxing Tournament showcases some of the finest boxers from the National and International level of competition & from the military branches. Boxers age 8-16 and 17-34 and Master Boxer 35-up compete in six division from 55lb-201lb+.
Street Fair Presented by Wells Fargo
The North Carolina Azalea Festival Street Fair Presented by Wells Fargo is a free, family event located in downtown Wilmington on Water, Front, Market, and 2nd Streets. Approximately 300+ vendor booths cover the entire stretch of the Street Fair, and there are many activities including the Children's Area Presented by Wilmington Eye and the Multicultural Stage Presented by Piedmont Natural Gas!
The Queen’s Coronation is an annual event where the Queen is officially crowned the North Carolina Azalea Festival Queen Azalea. In attendance are the Festival Invited Guests as well as: City Officials, Board Members, and Cape Fear Garden Club Azalea Belles. After the Coronation we have an exclusive free Meet and Greet with all of our celebrities and the Queen…this is your chance to meet the Queen and the Invited Guests.
Scholarship Pageant Presented by BB&T
Junior high school students from area high schools compete in this annual Scholarship Pageant based on a private interview with judges, evening gown competition, and on-stage presentation. The winner is the recipient of the Beverly Anne Jurgensen Scholarship Award, named after the beloved Past President of the North Carolina Azalea Festival.
The Azalea Children’s Tea is an annual event hosted by the Cape Fear Volunteer Center. The Azalea Children’s Tea is truly an enchanted experience. With the theme changing each year, it is like stepping into a different fairy tale every time. In attendance at this event are the Cape Fear Garden Club Azalea Belles, as well as pageant queens and princesses.
The Azalea Sweep is an event that takes place prior to the North Carolina Azalea Festival. Officers, committee members, and volunteers get together and clean various places where the Azalea Queen will visit during her reign. Afterwards, there is a volunteer thank you party with food and refreshments to celebrate the hard work of our volunteers!
