Azalea Suite, commissioned by the North Carolina Azalea Festival and composed by the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra’s conductor, Dr. Steven Errante, is comprised of five movements. Four of the movements are each a musical reflection on one specific azalea variety, with the final movement suggesting the profusion of a whole bank of azaleas. The four varieties reflected musically include the big and showy Formosa, the delicate Kurume variety, the petite and understated Coastal, and the brilliant color of the Flame.
