Unity In The Community

Queen’s Coronation

The Queen’s Coronation is an annual event where the Queen is officially crowned the North Carolina Azalea Festival Queen Azalea. Scholarship Pageant

Junior high school students from area high schools compete in this annual Scholarship Pageant based on a private interview with judges, evening gown competition, and on-stage presentation. The winner is the recipient of the Beverly Anne Jurgensen Scholarship Award, named after the beloved Past President of the North Carolina Azalea Festival.

Children’s Tea

The Azalea Children’s Tea is an annual event hosted by the Cape Fear Volunteer Center. The Azalea Children’s Tea is truly an enchanted experience. With the theme changing each year, it is like stepping into a different fairy tale every time. In attendance at this event are the Cape Fear Garden Club Azalea Belles, as well as pageant queens and princesses.

Azalea Sweep

The Azalea Sweep is an event that takes place prior to the North Carolina Azalea Festival. Officers, committee members, and volunteers get together and clean various places where the Azalea Queen will visit during her reign. Afterwards, there is a volunteer after-party with food and refreshments to celebrate the hard work of our volunteers!

Loop The Lake Extended 5K/10K/1 Mile Fun Run

The North Carolina Azalea Festival “Loop The Lake” Extended 5K/10K/1 Mile Fun Walk is an annual event hosted by the Cape Fear Volunteer Center. Kids, dogs, and costumes are welcome! All proceeds from this event benefit the Cape Fear Volunteer Center Big Buddy Program. Big Buddy is a one-on-one mentoring program that matches “at-risk” youth ages 6-16 in New Hanover County and Brunswick County with positive adult role models.
