Art Unveiling

The North Carolina Azalea Festival Art Unveiling is an annual event held in the Fall where we unveil the Official Artwork for that Festival year. 2017 Artist Sean D. The Pre-Festival Party is an annual event to kick-off the North Carolina Azalea Festival. With around 600 in attendance…it is an excellent opportunity to mingle with friends as we prepare for the good times Spring will bring. Scholarship Pageant

Junior high school students from area high schools compete in this annual Scholarship Pageant based on a private interview with judges, evening gown competition, and on-stage presentation. The winner is the recipient of the Beverly Anne Jurgensen Scholarship Award, named after the beloved Past President of the North Carolina Azalea Festival. Children’s Tea

The Azalea Children’s Tea is an annual event hosted by the Cape Fear Volunteer Center. The Azalea Children’s Tea is truly an enchanted experience. Azalea Sweep

The Azalea Sweep is an event that takes place prior to the North Carolina Azalea Festival. Officers, committee members, and volunteers get together and clean various places where the Azalea Queen will visit during her reign. The North Carolina Azalea Festival Children’s Art Contest is an annual art contest showcasing the amazing artistic talents of the youth in our community. Each year over 300 area public, private, and home-schooled elementary and middle school students, grades K-8, submit their artwork to the contest, illustrating the traditions of the North Carolina Azalea Festival that mean the most to them. High School Writing Contest

The North Carolina Azalea Festival introduced a new contest this year, the High School Writing Contest, in an effort to reach out to more youth in the greater Wilmington area.   High School students from New Hanover, Pender, and Brunswick counties were invited to submit either a descriptive essay or poem using the prompt:  “How does the North Carolina Azalea Festival contribute to or enhance the community of Wilmington, NC?”  Many thoughtful, interesting, and creative entries were received and judged…

The North Carolina Azalea Festival “Loop The Lake” Extended  5K/10K/1 Mile Fun Walk is an annual event hosted by the Cape Fear Volunteer Center. Kids, dogs, and costumes are welcome! All proceeds from this event benefit the Cape Fear Volunteer Center Big Buddy Program.
