2018 Band Information:

Feebs (Winner of the UNCW Battle of the Bands)
Feebs is an energetic group of musicians who have prided themselves on musical excellence while retaining a very raw and soulful sound! Our style is derived from a mixture of funk, blues, jazz, and rock. This is a band that can give you tasteful sax solos and crazy guitar riffs straight out of Jimmy Page’s wheelhouse! Come check us out and see what all the hype is about!

Port City Folk School
Port City Folk School offers group stringband jam sessions as a fun way to learn to play music and build a community of friends. The school also hosts public jams and provides private lessons. For banjo, guitar, mandolin, fiddle and more.

Stray Local
Stray Local is a folk celebration, an invitation to dance, a reminder of why the South is known for music that makes you feel at home. As comfortable with folk standards as with fresh material, Stray Local explores the joys of a timeless genre.  From house concerts to the big stage, their live shows can both captivate a listening audience and create the energy to dance.

Dark Water Rising
Dark Water Rising (Rocky soul) Chapel Hill, NC: The band attributes their style of playing and singing to a combination of influences, which range from attending Sunday morning worship services to absorbing the diverse styles and tones of artists like Aretha Franklin, Michael Jackson, the BeeGees, and Lynrd Skynard.

Matt Walsh
Matt Walsh is a singer, guitarist and songwriter from Statesville NC who performs solo or with his backup band around 200 shows a year throughout the southeast and beyond. His sound is influenced by anyone from Link Wray, Howlin’ Wolf, Prince, Black Sabbath or Pete Rock among many other musicians and styles of music. His primary focus is making original music and mixing his roots with new ideas rather than replicating them.

Freeway
FREEWAY delivers a high energy musical experience! Be prepared to embark on a musical journey thru the decades. FREEWAY, the ultimate party band, plays classic favorites that stand the test of time.

L Shaped Lot
“LSL mixes americana, bluegrass and country for a uniquely upbeat and toe-tapping sound that will instantly grab your attention and get you moving. And to add to their appeal, they’re a down-to-earth, great group of guys..” Mixing a healthy amount of musical chops, honest, and creative songwriting, powerful stage presence and well sung three-part harmonies, L Shape Lot creates an original and dynamic Americana sound based in country, rock, bluegrass, and roots/folk music. Their lively sound explores new ground, while still paying homage to their predecessors. L Shape Lot is from Wilmington, NC and consists of four members: Eric Miller (Acoustic guitar, vocals), Alex Lanier (electric, acoustic guitar, vocals) Rick Williams ( 6 string electric bass, upright bass, vocals) and Mykel Barbee (drums).

The Vagabond Saints’ Society – Tom Petty Tribute
The Vagabond Saints’ Society is a loose collective of North Carolina musicians that gathers semi-regularly to pay tribute to the great – and sometimes the not-so-great – artists of the pop-music era. The VSS performs musical toasts to a continually changing list of subjects – sometimes classic albums, sometimes an artist’s greatest hits, and sometimes a particular genre or concept. Past shows have paid tribute to the Beatles’ “Abbey Road” and “Rubber Soul,” Fleetwood Mac, Nick Cave, Spinal Tap, Boston, R.E.M., the Hoodoo Gurus, The Band’s “The Last Waltz”, John Lennon, Van Morrison, Bob Dylan, XTC, KISS, Velvet Underground, Woodstock, CCR, Joe Jackson, Emmylou Harris, Radiohead, Elton John and Tom Petty.

Jerry Chapman
Jerry Chapman is a singer-songwriter living in Mount Airy, NC. He has released 4 solo albums, 2 of which were recorded at Sputnik Studios in Nashville with Grammy-winning producer Mitch Dane (Jars of Clay, Bebo Norman) and mixed by yet another Grammy winner, Vance Powell (Jack White, Chris Stapleton). He regularly logs over 150 shows a year.

For the past couple years, he has been busy writing songs for future releases. Best guess puts that number of songs at around 150. Stay tuned for details on these upcoming recordings.

Doug Davis
A little folk, a little rock, indie, alt-country, Americana… but it’s all about the songs. Doug and his band, the Solid Citizens, have settled into a beautifully seamless style that’s unassuming and comfortably road-worn, caked in North Carolina clay and fashioned from the intertwining melodies of Lee and Susan Terry’s guitar, mandolin, and viola arrangements, built on the bedrock of Ken Mohan and Dan DesNoyers’ rhythm section work.
