The Vagabond Saints’ Society – Tom Petty Tribute
The Vagabond Saints’ Society is a loose collective of North Carolina musicians that gathers semi-regularly to pay tribute to the great – and sometimes the not-so-great – artists of the pop-music era. The VSS performs musical toasts to a continually changing list of subjects – sometimes classic albums, sometimes an artist’s greatest hits, and sometimes a particular genre or concept. Past shows have paid tribute to the Beatles’ “Abbey Road” and “Rubber Soul,” Fleetwood Mac, Nick Cave, Spinal Tap, Boston, R.E.M., the Hoodoo Gurus, The Band’s “The Last Waltz”, John Lennon, Van Morrison, Bob Dylan, XTC, KISS, Velvet Underground, Woodstock, CCR, Joe Jackson, Emmylou Harris, Radiohead, Elton John and Tom Petty.
Jerry Chapman is a singer-songwriter living in Mount Airy, NC. He has released 4 solo albums, 2 of which were recorded at Sputnik Studios in Nashville with Grammy-winning producer Mitch Dane (Jars of Clay, Bebo Norman) and mixed by yet another Grammy winner, Vance Powell (Jack White, Chris Stapleton). He regularly logs over 150 shows a year.
For the past couple years, he has been busy writing songs for future releases. Best guess puts that number of songs at around 150. Stay tuned for details on these upcoming recordings.
A little folk, a little rock, indie, alt-country, Americana… but it’s all about the songs. Doug and his band, the Solid Citizens, have settled into a beautifully seamless style that’s unassuming and comfortably road-worn, caked in North Carolina clay and fashioned from the intertwining melodies of Lee and Susan Terry’s guitar, mandolin, and viola arrangements, built on the bedrock of Ken Mohan and Dan DesNoyers’ rhythm section work.
